Thanks to some creativity and the help of friends and family, our wedding was beautiful and relaxed. It was better than I had imagined it could be!

I wore a mixture of new and old things to honor women from both sides of the family: a Monique Luo gown with a custom, hand-beaded veil and heirloom jewelry from my great-grandmother and grandmother, including the blue necklace pictured and a gold wedding band from the 1800's. I also wore earrings from my late mother-in-law and carried a bouquet of Oncidium orchids, cream roses and lisianthus, and ivy arranged by my grandmother.

Our wedding cake was designed by my great-uncle who is a pastry chef in Texas. Since he couldn't attend the wedding, he designed a "fake cake" made of Styrofoam tiers and real icing. We simply placed a slice of cake behind the tall one and cut it for pictures. Then, we had the caterer take the fake cake into the kitchen and come out with pre-cut sheet cake in matching colors!

The wedding party wore coordinating tuxedos and dresses in a dark chocolate.

The wedding was held in the garden behind The Cottage at Francis Marion University. My grandmother arranged all the flowers!
